Frequently Asked Questions:

ABOUT FLUR SKINCARE:
Q: I’m new to skin oils – where do I start?
A: Skin oils can be a lovely, nourishing addition to your daily routine. They’re full of plant-based goodness and help support soft, hydrated, and healthy-looking skin. At Flur, we offer a range of oils and balms that are gentle, easy to use, and made with high-quality, natural ingredients. If you’re not sure where to begin, start with a body oil after your shower or try our soothing Lavender & Kawakawa Balm on dry patches, lips, or skin that needs calming.
Q: What’s the difference between essential oils and carrier oils?
A: Great question. Carrier oils (like jojoba, sweet almond, or tamanu) are nourishing plant oils that make up the base of our blends. They’re full of natural fatty acids and vitamins that are good for your skin.
Essential oils, on the other hand, are highly concentrated plant extracts — very potent and used in small amounts to add scent and support wellbeing.
We carefully balance both to create blends that are gentle, effective, and beautifully scented without being overpowering.
Q: What does “infused with botanicals” mean?
A: Infused oils are made by gently soaking herbs or flowers (like kawakawa leaves or rose petals) in a carrier oil over time. This allows the oil to absorb the natural properties of the plant — creating a beautiful, herbal oil that supports your skin in a more holistic way.
Q: Which plant oils are best for the skin?
A: Many plant oils have wonderful skin-loving properties. Some of our favourites include:
-
Jojoba oil – closely mimics skin’s natural oils, making it ideal for balancing and softening
-
Tamanu oil – known for its soothing and restorative qualities
-
Sweet almond oil – light and gentle, great for sensitive or dry skin
-
Rosehip oil – rich in antioxidants, often used to support uneven skin tone or scarring
Each blend in the Flur range is thoughtfully created to match different needs — we’re happy to help guide you to the best one for you.
Q: How do I use face oils and body oils?
-
Face oils: Apply a few drops to clean, damp skin — morning or night. Gently press into your face and neck. You can use it alone or after your moisturiser to seal in hydration.
-
Body oils: Best used on slightly damp skin after a shower or bath. Massage in using circular motions. They absorb beautifully and leave your skin feeling soft, smooth, and subtly scented.
Q: How do I use your Lavender & Kawakawa Balm?
A: This all-purpose balm is a favourite for a reason. It’s calming, soothing, and versatile.
-
Use it on dry elbows, hands, lips, or feet
-
Gently massage into areas of skin irritation or sensitivity
-
Apply to temples or wrists when you need a moment of calm
A little goes a long way. It’s made from infused kawakawa, lavender essential oil, and skin-nourishing butters and waxes.
Q: Why do you use amber glass bottles instead of plastic?
A: We choose amber glass because it protects the natural oils from light and oxidation, helping them stay fresh and effective for longer. It’s also a more sustainable option — glass is fully recyclable and doesn’t leach chemicals. It’s better for the planet and for your skin.
Q: Why do you use cotton bags instead of cardboard packaging?
A: We wanted packaging that’s not only eco-friendly but reusable. Our little cotton bags are perfect for gifting, travel, or storing your oils safely. Unlike single-use boxes, they have an ongoing purpose — helping reduce waste while adding a thoughtful, natural touch to your order.
Q: What are perfume blends?
A: A perfume is a blend of aromatic materials which has it's own unique identity. At Flùr we use a blend of base, middle and top notes. (Notes are descriptors of scents.) The base notes bring depth and last the longest, middle notes, also known as heart notes are the scents that emerge just as the top notes dissipate. The top notes are scents that form the first impression of the perfume and are light and fresh but don't last very long.
